Dear Parents/Guardians,

We wanted to reach out to all of our KELSET families hoping everyone is doing well and feeling supported. So much has changed since we left for our spring break.  We have been spending the last week discussing ways to deliver instruction based on evolving direction from the Ministry of Education.  This coming week will be spent working with staff to support the use of online resources to deliver literacy and numeracy opportunities for our students.  The Ministry of Education has asked that this be up and running by mid-April, but we are hoping to be ready before then.

This week, your child’s classroom teacher will be reaching out to check in with each of their students and families.  You may receive a phone call, an email or possibly a text.

We know that the direction to provide approximately one hour of literacy and numeracy per day will be more than some may feel they can support given demands they may have as essential service workers, or may seem not enough to others.  Teachers will bcommunicating  learning opportunitiesassigned work, and they will also explain how to be in contact with them.  Additionally, we will be providing a list of resources that may be accessed for those wanting more programming for children at this time.  This is not business as usual, but we look forward to reestablishing personal connections between staff, students, and families, and meet the varying needs of our learners over the coming months.

It is certain that there will be questions and possibly an evolution to the described plan over the coming weeks and months.  Please be sure to communicate with your child’s teacher as the need arises and we will do our best to answer questions and respond to needs.

We look forward to getting back to working together, and reconnecting with our tremendous learning community.  We will continue to update you as the need arises.

Warmest personal regards,

Cathy Crocket-Moore, Principal; ccrocketmoore@saanichschools.ca
