Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we plan for our return to school on June 1stthe focus is to increase in-class instruction while ensuring health and safety guidelines set out by the Provincial Health Office (Dr. Bonnie Henry) and the Ministry of Education are followed.  School density targets have been established to ensure the number of students in the school environment is manageable and aligns with public health guidance. As shared by the Minister of Education, the return to school beginning June 1st is optional.

The framework and structure of the day will be that grades K-5 students will be attending two days per week.  The classroom teacher will assign their students alphabetically to one of two possible cohorts with considerations to the Health and Safety guidelines for school density allowances.  Cohort A students, will attend on Monday and Tuesdays and Cohort B students will be attending on Wednesday and Thursdays.    Parents will know their child’s specific schedule and assigned cohort by Wednesday, May 27th.  Fridays will be reserved for teachers to connect with students who are remaining on remote learning.

Thank you for completing the attendance survey earlier this week.  If there has been any changes in terms of attending or not since completing the survey, please ensure that you communicate this with your child’s teacher before 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 26th. We are doing our best to effectively plan for our students return and only those who indicate that they are returning will be placed in a cohort.

As we move through next week, more information will be provided in terms of routines, procedures and protocols.  We thank you for your patience and understanding as we move through these next few weeks.

We want you to know that we miss seeing our students and look forward to our June 1st return.  Thank you to all of our families who were able to be part of our ‘Smile and Wave Parade’ on May 11th.  Staff greatly enjoyed seeing our students and families.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or Ms. Sinclair-Wise or myself.

Warmest regards,

Cathy Crocket-Moore   Principal  ccrocketmoore@saanichschools.ca
