National D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read)

Day is Monday, October 23th

To celebrate, ḰELSET invites parents, guardians, grandparents, and family members to come read with students first thing in the morning between approximately 8:40 – 9:15 A.M. Parking will be problematic, so walking, biking, and carpooling will make it easier for you to get into the building in time to read with your child. (Please do not park on Haro Park.)

For Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3 – if you bring a working flashlight, you can read your great, great book in the darkdark, gym. Students must be accompanied by an adult for this spooktacular opportunity. Students must check in with their teacher for attendance before going to the gym with family member. (*in past years, all students and families were invited to the gym which resulted in an overcrowded gym.)

Drop Everything And Listen

For Grade 4 and 5

Oral stories offer a unique opportunity for the audience and storyteller to share a moment in time that can never be duplicated. Every legend, myth, creation story, offering new opportunities for learning.

We invite families to come share an oral story with their child. This could be a story passed down from your family, some family history, or a story you loved when you were younger. Come sit in the Enchanted Forest or the Naturescape, playground, hallway or classroom. If you prefer to read with your child – that's fine too!

See you on Monday!
