North Saanich Jubilee

1955-2015

The District of North Saanich is preparing to celebrate it's Jubilee on August 19, 2015. The District will be marking this 50th anniversary with a series of events. One of the events is a Time Capsule Contest.

Some students/families might want to enter this contest, hoping to have their submission be amongst those selected to be placed in the 200 lb. (90 kg.) steel time capsule, that will be buried full of commemorative items.

Here are some ideas shared by a member of the planning committee, to jump start your thinking...

LIFE IN 2015, 1965 and 2065!!!

  • Tell us about your life in 2015 - do you read the newspaper?   Use Twitter?  What music do you listen to?  Send us a blog or youtube of you and your friends/family.

  • Think about how curious you are about what life was like in 1965!

  • Think about something that you/we use every day - will this still be in use 50 years from now?  How much different will it be in the future?  Will it still be in use?  Will it amaze people in 2065 to learn it was part of our daily life?  Examples of this might be:

    • Clothing, school/team uniforms

    • Accessories - jewellery, wristbands, hair

    • personal equipment such as cell phones, camera, eyeglasses, hearing aids

    • Kitchen equipment, lunch container

  • Photo of your group, team or neighbourhood - what did your friends, family and surroundings look like in 2015?

Have a discussion with your family about the past, present and the future...be creative and have fun on this project together!
