We are delighted to be preparing for Monday, September 22 as the first day of school.  Our thanks go out to our teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and community partners for getting us through some difficult times to a place where we can look forward with optimism to another great year at KELSET.

KELSET Elementary School Procedures for Monday, September 22nd and Tuesday, September 23rd

Monday, September 22nd:

Returning students will go to last year's classroom/class, at the 8:40 bell.

Students new to the school should gather in the Multi-Purpose Room, at the 8:40 bell. Our new students will be given a tour of the school and taken to a grade-appropriate classroom.

Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten students are asked simply to do a phone check in on Monday, September 22nd, to confirm attendance for this school year. See below for information about the Kindergarten Gradual Entry Schedule.

Refreshments will be available for Parents/Guardians, thanks to our PAC!

Parents/guardians are welcome to enjoy refreshments and mingle in the gym, from the start of the morning until dismissal time. Thank you, PAC!

Monday Dismissal will be at 10:15. Buses leave at 10:25 and 10:40.

New students should go to the office at 10:15, to be met by their parents, or assisted to the appropriate bus, etc.

Tuesday, September 23rd:

All students return to the classrooms they were in on Monday, except for the Grade One students, who will be met by various staff members near the spider climber (South end of the school) and taken to different classrooms (as the 2014/15 Kindergarten students will be in the Kindergarten classrooms.)

New Classes:

We hope that students will move to their 2014/15 classrooms/classes by Wednesday morning. Enrolment has changed over the summer and the labour situation has made finalizing student placements challenging. Once our numbers are “secure,” we can finalize our class configurations and teacher assignments, review student placements and move students to their new classes. We will make every effort to have students in their new classes as soon as possible, but we need to ensure that the classroom configurations, teacher assignments and student placements are determined as carefully and thoughtfully as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

School Supplies:

  • If you ordered packaged school supplies, they may be picked up in the gym on Monday morning. Please check in with a member of the PAC, in the gym, for assistance and record-keeping purposes.

  • If supplies are not picked up on Monday, they will be delivered to the children, once they have moved to their new classes.

Kindergarten Gradual Entry Schedule:

Monday, September 22nd: Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten students are asked to simply call the school to confirm attendance for this school year.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, September 23rd-25th: Students will attend for approximately 1/3rd of the school day in small groups, experiencing the start, middle and end of the day routines. (Details will be emailed to each family on Friday, September 19th.)
